Bachelor of Health Care | Nursing | full-time studies

In the Degree Programme Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing nursing students are educated to become registered nurses in Finland. In the nursing profession, you work close to people in diverse environments in social and health care. The nursing profession and care is based on nursing and caring sciences. In addition to caring sciences, students study public health sciences, medical and surgical subjects, and behavioral and natural sciences such as anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.

The focus lies on international cooperation and we encourage our students to do parts of their studies at our partner universities or as free mover students. Teamwork and blended learning are well-established teaching methods within the program.

The studies consist of Core Studies, Professional Studies, Practice, and a Bachelor’s Thesis.

The central part of the studies is the care of people of different age groups and life situations. Caring sciences, health sciences, medical subjects, nursing work, drug therapy, anatomy and physiology, supervision, and professional communication are also central topics. Training emphasizes preventive, person-centered, and resource-enhancing practices to promote patient health. The Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 has been implemented in the curriculum as competences.

The Core Studies are basic studies such as languages while the Professional Studies focus on Clinical Competence, Professional Development and Nursing Research. The main focus is on nursing care in a global perspective and cultural competence. The students can, through their Thesis and last clinical study module, focus on their special field within nursing.

The studies include group work, lectures, blended learning, simulations, various examinations, and work-related projects. Supervised clinical studies (internships) are included in the studies starting from the second semester, in 4-10 week periods in nursing homes, health care centers, hospitals, community care, counselling and other health facilities. The clinical studies are partially located in the region of Novia UAS, but the students are expected to internship around Finland or abroad as exchange students.
