Metropolia UAS proudly presents its renowned Degree Programme in Laboratory Science, offering a comprehensive 3.5-year Bachelor's degree with 210 ECTS credits, leading to a Bachelor of Laboratory Services. If you're passionate about chemistry and biology, this is your gateway to becoming an expert in laboratory research methods!

The program focuses on equipping you with the knowledge and skills essential for chemical and biological laboratory research. With approximately half of your contact teaching conducted in state-of-the-art laboratories, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience.

Upon graduation, you'll emerge as a proficient laboratory analyst, capable of performing, developing, and validating advanced analytical methods used in chemistry and biology. You can apply statistical methods in your work. You'll also have a holistic understanding of laboratory operations and daily activities.

Content of the Study Programme

The curriculum seamlessly integrates theory and practical exercises in the laboratory. You'll delve into diverse fields such as food safety, water and air quality, forensics, quality assurance, pathogenic microbe detection, and instrumental analysis. Moreover, you'll have the flexibility to choose 15 elective credits in subjects like sustainability, programming, leadership, procurement, or language studies. While our program doesn't cover clinical patient sampling, you'll still acquire skills necessary for biomedical sample analysis.

Immerse yourself in the real-world laboratory setting with a five-month internship in a company or research institute. Your final thesis project will also be carried out in collaboration with a partner organization. Throughout your time at the Metropolia campus, you'll have the opportunity to work on projects provided by Metropolia UAS, various companies and research institutions, enhancing your practical skills and expanding your network.

The program actively collaborates with European universities specializing in forensic and environmental science. You can explore the world by applying for short or long-term exchanges at these partner institutions. We also welcome guest lecturers from these esteemed international universities, broadening your horizons and global perspective.
