Hospitality Management and Service Design – daytime studies

You will learn how to improve, develop, and change the service business. Studies improve your skills in planning, organizing, and communicating and prepare you to work as a manager in a project. You will learn different service design methods. Studies combine theory and practice. During the practical study projects, you practice bringing your theoretical knowledge into action.
In addition to service business studies, the degree programme offers expertise in leadership, digitalization, communication, and interaction. The capability to lead work processes, network and understand the needs of customers is a core competence. You will learn to discover differences of each customer’s needs and respond to their hopes concerning specific services.
You become a professional in Hospitality Management by studying, running projects with teams during the study units, leading yourself and learning how to develop and design services in operations in the hospitality field. Programme provides you with professional understanding of the hospitality industry and practical knowledge of all the basic functions in the field.
Study content
The programme is composed of compulsory core competencies, complementary competencies, job placements and final project/thesis. You can combine different fields of hospitality management in a way that is suitable for you and influence the direction in which your competence develops by the work placements and thesis.

How to study
This is is a daytime programme and the studies include contact teaching and face-to-face instruction. A special key element in this programme is collaboration with coaches, experts and entrepreneurs in project work. Internationality and global aspects play a big role.
This programme combines classroom studies and practical working life projects. As a part of the studies, you get to work in our own learning environment, the student restaurant BarLaurea. During the practice periods in BarLaurea you will learn the whole process of creating and producing services in the hospitality industry. In the thesis you will demonstrate your expertise in your field, and it is commonly conducted with a partner from working life; research, development of the field and collaboration with organizations are in the spotlight.

Expenses
University higher education is funded by the State through the Ministry of Education and Culture, so that students enrolled in regular degree programmes pay no tuition fees. However, students have to pay for their books and other materials, plus their accommodation and living expenses.
